PORTLAND, Ore. (September 23, 2013)- Local NFL team the Portland Lumberjacks rebounded from a tough loss with a stand out performance against in-state rivalry Portland Stumpers in this week’s matchup. The Lumberjacks won by a score of 103.82 to 62.60. They showed their rivals they mean business on the field as they look to draw fans that may be on the midline with their rooting interests.
“We went into this week feeling confident and that certainly showed on the field,” said team coach Jess Voigt. Starting quarterback Cam Newton put up 33.42 for his team, clearly showing his confident game play. The Baltimore Ravens defense also contributed significant numbers with two defensive touchdowns to the winning effort and reinforced Coach Voigt’s decision to keep them as her starting defense after a rough showing in Week 1 against the Denver Broncos. The in-town rivalry will be renewed week 11 when the teams meet up again.
Going into week four, the Lumberjacks are facing the Honolulu Pineapples, who are ranked third compared to the Lumberjack’s number five ranking. “This is a big week for us, going against an elite team,” said coach Voigt. “Last week was an important win, but we are looking to turn that into positive momentum for the rest of the season.” Portland is looking to take the energy and excitement of beating their in-state rivals and convert into that to another win against the Pineapples.
