OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Sept. 17, 2013) – Pioneers quarterback Drew Brees encouraged volunteer efforts during the 9/11 Day of Service to coincide with the Super Service Challenge sponsored by Companies With a Mission. Brees has included his teammates in these efforts.
“It’s about making people aware of charitable service and the observance of 9/11 day has become the largest charitable service day of the year,” said Brees. Since his days at Purdue, he has continuously found ways to serve. This included starting his own foundation, the Brees Dream Foundation, along with his wife Brittany in 2003. “Being in the NFL, you have a great voice and platform,” said Brees.
His teammates agreed and spent service time with the foundation, specifically working toward bringing the Purdue Athletes Life Success Program to Oklahoma City. The PALS Program is a sports camp open to kids aged 8-14 whose parents or guardians meet Department of Health and Human Services income guidelines.
“The PALS camp is more than sports. It builds character in the kids and has the potential to do the same for the Pioneers,” says co-owner Ben Linton, “It’s great to see excitement in the guys about expanding a program that Brees supports.”
This year, dates are still to be determined for the Oklahoma City PALS Program.
