HONOLULU – John Lowery, owner of the new NFL team, the Honolulu Pineapples, held a news conference this past Friday to introduce the team. “We look forward to introducing Hawaii to their first permanent football team, and we are ready for a great season,” said Lowery.
Wide receiver, DeSean Jackson, accompanied Lowery at the news conference. He had a great first week for the Pineapples, with 9 catches averaging about 15 yards per catch. Jackson stated, “A lot of teams don’t’ really know what to expect. Regardless of what we did in the preseason, I still think there are a lot of plays that have been hidden and that we haven’t been running.”
With the Pineapples being Hawaii’s first professional football team. Lowery talked about how they are planning to work with their sponsor, Dole, to expand the fan base to attract tourists to games. Aloha Stadium is conveniently located two miles from the Honolulu International Airport to accommodate for an extensive fan base.
The Pineapples were also excited to release that tight end, Rob Gronkowski, is expected to open up his season this year in the third round of games against the San Antonio Toros after being out because of injury. With all the talent on the team, the Pineapples expect to have a great season.
