SILVERBEACH, Mich. – The Guardians suffered their third consecutive loss, falling to the Columbus Commanders in Week 9. With a 66-point differential, the final score at Columbus’ home stadium was 108.36–42.10.
Guardians’ quarterback Andy Dalton was unable to put up any points this week as he was added to the team’s inactive list after suffering a minor hand injury in a car accident. Dalton has since recovered and is expected to participate in next week’s game. Tight end Dallas Goedert hasn’t participated with the team since suffering a hamstring injury in Week 6 and missed his third straight game this past week. Running back Jaylen Warren and wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. were also unavailable and did not play last weekend. With several absences … left the team relying heavily on the remaining roster to fill the gaps.
The Guardians’ most valuable player was running back David Montgomery adding 12.60 points to the scoreboard with a solid performance of 73 rushing yards and 3 receptions. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill put up nearly as many points contributing 12.00 with 80 receiving yards. While Hill’s name can still be found in headlines this year, his on-field performance hasn’t matched the expectations set following last season. After a strong 130-yard game in Week 1, Hill hasn’t scored since the opener and will look to end this slump in Week 10.
Wide receiver Rashod Bateman put up 5.50 points adding to the 42.10-point total that fell far short of what was needed to compete with the Commanders. Columbus was able to dominate with every players adding points to their lead, including three players who each added over 20 points, totaling more than the Guardians’ entire score.
As the Guardians look towards next week’s game, they aim to regroup and bolster their offense, hoping to break their losing streak and find the consistency that’s been lacking in recent performances. Minimizing evident mistakes and perfecting their starting roster will be crucial to turning their season around.
SilverBeach currently sit at 3-6-0 and are ranked 11th in the league’s overall standings. The Guardians will face the Panama City Penguins (4-5-0) in Week 10 as they are working towards regaining momentum.
