HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Hornets came in strong to secure their fourth win of the season against the Boston Fourth Quarter, with a final score of 122.00 – 87.76.
The Boston Fourth Quarter had a five game losing streak coming into this week’s match, but the Hornets weren’t taking anything for granted. After a tough loss to the Oklahoma City Twisters, the team was hungry to secure another win.
“Every week we are growing and learning from our mistakes,” said quarterback Sam Darnold, “we knew a lot was riding on this game, so we all had a lot of energy.” Darnold completed 18 of 25 passes for 240 yards and threw two touchdowns for the team.
Despite having a toe injury during Week 7, James Cook still paved the way with 28.3 points for the offense. He scored the highest number of points of any running back in the league with 111 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Tight end Kyle Pitts also had a standout performance this week with 25.10 points. He scored a season high with two touchdowns and had 91 receiving yards. Both players were key contributors to leading the Hornets to victory.
While wide receiver Drake London led the Hornets in points last week, he only earned 7.40 in this week’s match. Running back Chase Brown also had a disappointing performance with only 32 rushing yards on 12 touches. Nonetheless, the Hornets were still able to keep up their momentum and defeat the Boston Fourth Quarter. They are now sitting at a record of 4-4-0 and stayed at seventh again in this week’s rankings.
In Week Nine, the Hornets will face the Cleveland Chubb Club (3-5-0) at their home stadium. The CCC just secured a win to move them up to ninth place in the league, so it will be a competitive match for both teams.
