Harrisonburg, VA Just one week after earning their first victory of the season, the Hornets find themselves back in the loss column after a blowout loss to the Las Vegas Vipers, 64.10-144.96 in week four.
After strong week three performances, Harrisonburg Hornets running backs James Cook and Devin Singletary struggled to find any success on the ground, combing for 10.6 points. Vipers QB Jordan Love and WR Nico Collins made easy work of the Hornet’s secondary as they connected for 151 yards and a score on Sunday. The pass-and-catch tandem posted 61.26 points for the Vipers, nearly defeating the Hornets alone. QB Sam Darnold led the way for the Hornets with 20.50 points but was the only player to produce more than 15 points. TE Kyle Pitts was targeted three times but ended up with a goose egg on the scoresheet after having no catches. It was an all-around forgettable week for the Hornets, as they posted the second lowest points of the week, only in front of the Silverbeach Guardians (55).
“It starts with me. I need to be better pre-snap, executing throws, and ultimately allowing our players to make a play. I know we’ll take the week to review the film, recover, and come out next week ready to send a message to the league.” Darnold said.
The Hornets return home next week to take on the Panama City Penguins (3-1), who currently sit in second place in the Varsity Blues division and have the league’s highest-rated offense.
