SILVERBEACH, Mich. — After starting the season 2-0, the Silverbeach Guardians fell for the second straight week last Sunday, losing to the Baltimore Blue Crabs, 73.06-55.34.
The loss came in part due to a big hit to the midsection of starting quarterback Anthony Richardson, which took him out of the game early. He finished with 71 passing yards and 24 rushing, scoring 5.24 points for the Guardians. Head coach Emmy Reagan did not provide a timetable for his return postgame.
“When he is fully healed and ready to go, he’ll be back on the field as our starter,” she said. “But we don’t want to rush this. He has a bright future in this League ahead of him and we want to keep it that way.”
Without Richardson, the game came down to the running backs. David Montgomery led the team in points with 15.00, rushing for 40 yards and one touchdown with 40 receiving yards as well. But Baltimore’s Jerome Ford outmatched Montgomery with a team-high 15.50 points thanks to 57 rushing yards and 27 receiving.
While tight end Dallas Goedert was the only other Guardian to score double-digit points with 13.20, two Blue Crabs, wide receivers Jaxon Smith Njigba (13.10) and Tee Higgins (12.00) finished above 10 for Baltimore. The Guardians were unable to make up the difference and fell to 2-2.
Up next, Silverbeach will face the undefeated Oklahoma City Twisters.
