On the road to start its season, the Silverbeach Guardians got off to a strong start in its 2024 campaign with a 117.32-90.68 win over the Harrisonburg Hornets.
The combination of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and wide receiver Tyreek Hill was pivotal in the Guardians’ win, with the two connecting for their lone passing touchdown. Tagovailoa finished with 338 passing yards and 18.62 points while Hill led Silverbeach with 130 receiving yards and a team-leading 26.00 points.
“From then on, we found something,” Tagovailoa said about the touchdown postgame.
Harrisonburg quarterback Matthew Stafford finished just behind Tagovailoa with 317 yards and a touchdown. His 14.68 points was the most of any Hornet, but it was still less than four Guardians starters — Tagovailoa, Hill, running back David Montgomery (16.30) and wide receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. (18.70)
The Guardians start the season 1-0 and will face the Las Vegas Vipers in their home opener. The Hornet fall to 0-1 and will face the New Jersey Squirrels next.
