HARRISONBURG, Va.- The JMU Dukes took home not one but two victories in the action-packed doubleheader against the Longwood Lancers on Wednesday at Harrisonburg Memorial Stadium. These were the fourth and fifth straight won games for the Dukes by scores of 10-7 and 8-2.
The dukes were led by Kirsten Fleet, who picked up her eighth win of the season, which allowed the Dukes to score three runs. In the second game, player Alissa Humphrey struck out seven, securing the Dukes an 8-2 win. In the pair of wins, JMU collected 18 runs, 24 hits, five home runs, and three doubles.
JMU Duke Bella Henzler led with two home runs and five RBI, both team highs. The Sun Belt Player of the Week, named Tuesday, Reed Butler, advanced her batting average to 416 with a 5-for-8 (.625) effort during the games. KK Mathis had four hits, while Madison Edwards, Jasmine Hall, and Hallie Hall all hit runs as well.
Praising an accomplished player post-game, The JMU Softball Instagram page posted “Alissa Humphrey picked up her 40th career win last night, just the 7th player in JMU history to do so! She also sits at 489 career strikeouts, the 5th most in program history! #GoDukes
The two wins bring the Dukes to 17-3 at home this season, averaging 8.3 runs per game.
The Dukes will travel to Boone, N.C., to begin a three-game Sun Belt series with App State from April 19-21.
