HARRISONBURG, VA.- The JMU dukes played in a makeup game against the Richmond Spiders this Wednesday at Veteran Memorial Park. The game was originally scheduled for March 6th, but due to inclement weather the game had to be delayed.
The JMU Dukes had great performances from Junior, Fenwick Trimble and redshirt Senior, Sean Culkin. Trimble recorded his 50th career multi-game hit along with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI’s. Tremble now has the teams longest hitting streak at 11 games. Culkin pitched for two innings serving with a strikeout over the Richmond Spiders.
The second inning was most notable after being down 1-0 against Richmond. JMU scored 5 runs in the second inning starting with redshirt senior, Mason Dunaway as his line drive sent Ryan Dooley home to tie up the game. Dunaway then scored on a double made by junior, Jason Schiavone. After the double, a walk occurred from Kyle Langley’s first triple of the season. The inning ended with Fenwick Trimble scoring to make it 5-1. Trimble then pushed the lead with Wyatt Peifer on base.
Wyatt Piefer hit to give 3 runs to JMU after a dive ball in outfield was ruled a dropped ball. Richmond then had a small comeback in the 8th innings making the score 10-4. The game ended in a score of 14-4 and Ryan Dooley and Jacob Steingberg both hit doubles to four more up on the board to finalize the game.
In record news, Mike Mancini’s hitting streak came to an end.
Post game he said “It wasn’t the turnout I expected for myself, but I am still proud I could achieve something like that”
JMU baseball will be on the road this weekend to match up with ODU in Norfolk, VA at the TowneBank Royal Rivalry Challenge.
