On Saturday, James Madison lost a close game to Georgia State with a final score of 8-7, bringing the Dukes to a 16-12 record.
The first inning started off with a bang, with both teams scoring two runs going into the second inning. Following this, the Dukes took a two-run lead in the second inning, before going run-less in the third and fourth innings, while Georgia State only had one run in the third inning, before going run-less in the fourth. James Madison then had three runs in the fifth inning, before going scoreless the rest of the game. Georgia State after finding themselves unable to get a run in the fifth inning, answered this with two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings. These runs went unanswered by James Madison, ending in a close loss for the Dukes.
Notable players from Saturday’s contest include Mike Mancini, Wyatt Peifer, Fenwick Trimble, and Brendan O’Donnel, who all recorded runs during the beginning of the game. Donovan Burke also had an impressive game, recording four strikeouts.
The Dukes, looking to bounce back from this tough loss, and upon the postponing of their game against Radford on Tuesday, will get their opportunity this Friday, April 5th, against App State, in James Madison’s own Eagle Field at Veterans Memorial Park.
