HARRISONBURG, Va. – The No. 4 James Madison Dukes dominated all facets of Saturday’s match-up against the East Carolina Pirates, notching another win at Sentara Park and outscoring the Pirates 19-3.

Following their first loss of the season a week prior against Maryland, redshirt-junior attacker Olivia Mattis explained how the Dukes emphasized capitalizing on opportunities and staying ahead of their opponent.

“It was a fun game to see everyone get in. We all came in with ‘go after it’ mentality, especially after the Maryland game. We knew we needed to get back to playing JMU lacrosse and that’s exactly what we showed.”

The team was led to their first AAC victory of the season by offensive weapons senior attacker Isabella Peterson, redshirt junior Maggie Clark, and sophomore attacker Maddie Epke. Ten Dukes scored, six scored two or more goals during the game, and the team out-shot ECU 42-7. Freshman midfielder Aly Yee-Jenkins scored her first collegiate goal in her second appearance of the season.

Defensively, the Dukes saw action from all three goalkeepers following sophomore Caitlin Boden’s two-quarter shutout start. Junior Adanya Moyer and freshman Emily Evans split time in the goal during the fourth quarter allowing one goal a piece.

ECU’s freshman attacker Riley Matthiesen carried the offense scoring two of the Pirates three goals and was assisted by Frances Kimel, who scored one goal of her own.

The Dukes move to 7-1 (1-0 AAC) and will travel over the mountain to face the No. 9 Virginia Cavaliers (8-1) on Wednesday, March 20 at 5:00 p.m. in Charlottesville, V.a.
