COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The James Madison University Dukes played against a close rival only 2 and a half hours away from their home. Unfortunately, the JMU baseball team fell short against the Maryland Terrapins with a final score of 5-9.
Nonetheless, the Duke still made large markers in this game. They started strong, taking on an early lead with two runs in the first inning. Mike Mancini and Mason Dunaway homered with RBI’s of 3-2 and 2-1. Although, the Maryland Terrapins responded swiftly while tying the game in the second inning. Both teams continued to battle it out, with neither team making significant progress until the eighth inning where the Terrapins homered thanks to Chris Hacopian along with aiding three of his teammates to score.
In the end, it was the Maryland Terrapins who emerged with victory, scoring a decisive run in the eighth inning. Aside from the major effort and strong start from the JMU Dukes, they were unable to overcome the Terrapins’ strong defense and pitching.
The recent loss against the Maryland Terrapins serves as a setback but will prevail to demonstrate great resilience and skill that the JMU Dukes will encounter in the future.
