Harrisonburg, VA – No.4 James Madison Dukes won their women’s lacrosse game against East Carolina University 19 to 3 at Sentara Park in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The game showcased an outstanding display of confidence and talent from the JMU girls who were focused on getting this victory after last week’s loss against Maryland.
JMU dominated every single aspect of the game, especially the shots on goal as the Dukes managed to attempt 42 shots while the Pirates only managed to attempt seven. The goalkeeper for the ECU side played an important role with 10 saves while Caitlin Boden only intervened with one save for the Dukes.
Furthermore, the Dukes dominance to secure the win was also displayed throughout the field regarding the possession and errors with the ball. JMU dominated the draw controls, winning 20 out of 25 which allowed them to keep possession of the ball.
The defensive game was also on point for the Dukes as they were able to create pressure and force turnovers and errors from the ECU side who had 13 turnovers against five from JMU.
Every player for the Dukes had an outstanding performance however, it’s worth noting Isabella Patterson’s terrific performance as she was the top scorer for the JMU cause with 5 goals, followed by Maggie Clark who scored 3 goals. Patterson’s outstanding game earned her her fourth Honor Roll recognition of the 2024 season given by the American Athletic Conference.
On the other hand, Ava Bleckley earned AAC’s Freshman of the Week after her excellent performance with four draw controls. Bleckley now has three ‘Freshman of the Week’ recognitions this season.
With this win, the JMU Dukes improved their record and look forward to their next away game when they take on the ‘Hoos of UVA, this upcoming Wednesday, March 20 at 5 PM in Charlottesville, Virginia.
