#2 Ranked JMU Lacrosse Dominates Albany

Harrisonburg, VA – The James Madison Women’s Lacrosse Team took down the Albany Great Danes 21-12 thanks to a big second half scoring surge for the Dukes.

The lead scorers, Katelyn Morgan and Maddie Epke, each netted five goals. Kacey Knobloch put up her second hat trick of the year and led the team with four assists. The Dukes defense caused 12 turnovers and Sophomore goalkeeper, Caitlin Boden, recorded nine saves against the Great Danes’ offense. Ava Bleckley’s strong defensive performance awarded her American Athletic Conference Freshman of the week.

It was a back and forth game through the first half, as the Dukes only led by two after the second quarter. A  offensive push would result in 12 goals in the second half topping UAlbany’s five second half goals.

“We knew that we were getting good looks and that no matter what goalie is in, we just have to stick to the basics. I think it’s always a good sign when we make a defense change goalies a couple of times.”

The win brings JMU to to 5-0 and 2nd in the ILWomen/IWLCA Division 1 Poll. This is only the third time in program history the Dukes are ranked this high.

JMU will travel to Greenville, S.C. to take on Furman (1-3) on March 2nd.
