The James Madison University (JMU) baseball team had a stellar Sunday, securing two victories against Fairfield at Veterans Memorial Park. The Dukes resumed a suspended game and clinched a 4-2 win before dominating the finale with a 16-4 victory, completing the sweep.
In the first game, sophomore Jaden Kinsler earned his second win, with freshman Jackson Logar securing a save. Junior Coleman Calabrese‘s two-run home run and an RBI single from junior Ryan Dooley contributed to the early lead. Fairfield narrowed the gap, but a sacrifice fly from redshirt senior Jacob Steinberg sealed the 4-2 win for the Dukes.
The second game saw an explosive offensive display from JMU. Three Dukes, including graduate Brendan O’Donnell, who went 3-for-3 with two home runs and six RBIs, collected three hits each. Coleman Calabrese also added a home run, his third consecutive game with a home run. The Dukes homered five times, the most in a game since 2017.
The Dukes’ dominant performance extends their winning streak to four games, bringing their record to 5-3. Fairfield, in contrast, fell to 0-6.
JMU’s offensive prowess was on full display as they scored in every inning of the finale, culminating in a decisive 16-4 victory in 7 innings. They capitalized on early opportunities with back-to-back homers from sophomore Mike Mancini and junior Fenwick Trimble in the first inning. Brendan O’Donnell’s homers in the third and fourth innings and critical hits from other players ensured JMU’s commanding lead.
The Dukes’ performance showcased their depth and power at the plate, setting a solid tone for the remainder of the season.
