HARRISONBURG, Va. – The Dukes maintain their undefeated season with a win against the Towson Tigers 20-10 at home at Sentara Park.

JMU had a strong offensive performance with senior Isabella Peterson and senior Taylor Marchetti each scoring four goals for the Dukes, as well as junior Savannah Derey putting up three goals in the match. With Peterson’s performance today, she ties for first in all time free position goals in JMU history with 47 on her career.

The defense for the Dukes was just as powerful. Senior Nicholle Marshall had three ground balls and two caused turnovers in the game and sophomore Courtney Quirk led the team with three caused turnovers on the day. The JMU defense did not give up the Dukes’ lead for the entirety of the match as they put up a strong front to stop the Tigers offense.

The Dukes dominated the draw circle beating Towson 24-9 in the circle and outshooting the Tigers 39-23. The twenty goals scored against Towson beats the previous matchup record of 19 against the Tigers on the road in 1995. This is the seventh consecutive time the Dukes have beat Towson overall in the series.

Head Coach Shelley Klaes commented on the Dukes’ performance in this match in the post game press conference.

“I’m really proud of the way this team is performing. They look strong on offense and defense and are playing together. Scoring early on in the game has helped us to be able to play loose and smart throughout the whole season. If we continue to jump on other teams early we can continue to see this level of success in the future.”

With this win, the Dukes move to 4-0 on the season and Towson moves to 1-2. The Dukes are set to face the Albany Great Danes on Sunday, February 25 at home at Sentara Park.
