Honolulu. – The Honolulu Hammerheads dropped their third consecutive game yesterday, falling to the Charleston Crabs 115.56-102.54.
The Hammerheads lost two straight road games to open the season, but headed home optimistic for their season opener at Aloha Stadium. The team, however, fell flat in the end and couldn’t quite hold on to an early lead.
Honolulu fans watched as their top running back duo of Joe Mixon and Miles Sanders combined for just 12.2 points, and wide receiver Michael Thomas left the game with a foot injury after just 5 catches for 9.9 points.
Quarterback Carson Wentz was sacked a whopping 9 times in the game, a league-wide record that resulted in a loss of 18 fantasy points. Looking at the scoreboard, those points were the difference between a win and a loss for the Hammerheads.
After the game, Coach Maui Heihei spoke to the press about team morale.
“We feel like we have played really well. A lot of unlucky injuries have hit us hard, but there’s still a lot of season left. We just have to take it one week at a time”.
Tight end Travis Kelce and wideout Terry McLaurin were both bright spots in the loss, and Honolulu is likely to lean on them heavily once again next week.
The Hammerheads will look to capture their first win of the season next week as they are set to take on the 2-1 Mexico City Manatees. The game will be played at Aloha Stadium.
