OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma City Oxen lost their season opener against the Portland Porcupine, with an overall score of 113.96 to 142.48. However, Oxen quarterback Justin Herbert displays what could be a promising season after completing 26 passes and throwing three touchdowns (41.26 points).

QB Herbert completed nine passes and threw eight incomplete passes in the game. His leadership on and off the field has proved vital to the Oxen and will continue to be if this team hopes to make the SCOM Fantasy League playoffs later this fall.

“I have this huge folder [on my computer] called ‘Why Justin’s the greatest quarterback of all-time. It’s like 67 plays. If I’ve had a bad day, I just watch that,” said Herbert.

The Oxen running back Cam Akers played poorly, making no gain after three carries on twelve snaps, compared to the Porcupine running back Antonio Gibson, who averaged 4.1 yards per carry, giving the Oxen running backs a run for their money. The Porcupine’s WR Jerry Jeudy dominated the field with 102 receiving yards, accumulating 24.20 points compared to the Oxen’s two WRs, who totaled 21.4 points.

RB D’Andre Swift rushed 25 times, gaining 144 yards and completing one touchdown. During some point of the game, Swift suffered an ankle injury leaving the Oxen unsure about his status for the upcoming game.
The Oklahoma City Oxen will square off against the Austin Roadrunners next week in Austin, Texas. Both teams started the year off 0-1, looking for a redemption game to get back to .500 and make an early case for the playoffs this year. Herbert will lead the charge for the Oxen in a face-off against the Roadrunners’ quarterback Derek Carr to see who the dominant quarterback is.
