BOISE, Idaho — The Boise Spuds dropped their first matchup of the year to the Harrisonburg Valley Bees in a tightly contested game, 139.58-131.92. Spuds’ wide receiver Justin Jefferson’s 40.40 fantasy points weren’t enough to overcome balanced production from the Valley Bees’ roster, which saw five players surpass 16 points.

Receiver Justin Jefferson totaled 184 yards and two touchdowns for a new career high on Sunday. His performance set a precedent for the remainder of the season.

Jefferson will be a vitally important player for the Spuds this season, and he kept them in the game until the very end.

“There were nerves coming into this week,” Jefferson said during his week one performance. “But those went right out the window when I got to work.”

Running back Ezekiel Elliot struggled week one putting up only 5.9 points in a close loss and put a majority of the blame on himself.

“I need to be better,” Elliot noted. “If I play at a higher level, maybe we come out on top.”

Up next, the Spuds take on the Portland Porcupines in Week 2. They won their first matchup and are heading into the week at 1-0. They have several big name players including Tom Brady, Alvin Kamara, Jamar Chase, and Antonio Gibson. The projected score leans toward the Porcupines to win 129.93 to 118.38.

The Spuds will need huge bounce-back weeks from RB Elliot, WR Brandon Aiyuk and kicker Matt Prater. The players listed above were the lowest scoring players for the Spuds during Week 1.
