FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SALT LAKE CITY – The Salt Lake City Seagulls were defeated in their first game of the season by the Orlando Crocodiles by a score of 122.98 to 99.46 Sunday.

The seagulls were led by their defense, as its defense led the team in scoring with 24 points. However, the performance of the Seagulls this weekend was overshadowed by quarterback Dak Prescott’s injury to his hand, which is scheduled to have him out for 6-8 weeks.

Following the game, Prescott was asked about the injury. I thought it was a jammed finger, but I couldn’t grip the ball. … I was told it was a much cleaner break than it could’ve been,” said Prescott, “Obviously it’s not what you wanna hear. It’s not the worst thing that’s happened to me. It’s just another bump in the road, and I will keep moving forward. … Let’s not panic. It’s one game.”

Prescott’s injury is a setback for the Seagulls, but with backup quarterback Kirk Cousins posting a 33-point performance Sunday, the team looks to stay competitive without leader Prescott.

The Seagull’s Defense put up a valiant effort having 5 takeaways in the loss. They also took an interception back for a touchdown. On top of the takeaways, the defense added 7 sacks.

The Crocodiles were led by quarterback Josh Allen who posted an impressive 55.48 points, the second most of any starting quarterback in week 1. Running back Leonard Fournette led the skill positions with a solid 16.7 points, and the special teams for the Crocodiles contributed well with kicker Ryan Succop and the defense combining for 24 points.

The Seagulls (0-1) will be back at the Rice-Eccles stadium to face the Honolulu Hammerheads (0-1) in week 2.
