SAN DIEGO, CA – The San Diego Sealions were able to snap their four game losing streak in a convincing win over the Charleston Cadets bringing their overall record to 2-6-0 on the season. The Sealions moved up from 13th to 12th in the overall rankings, but still own the bottom spot in division two. The final score of the contest was 136.32 to 88.16 in favor of the Sealions.

The top performer for either team this past week was wide receiver Chris Godwin who recorded 29.00 total points by accumulating eight catches on 12 targets for 140 yards and a touchdown. For the Cadets, Joe Burrow was a bright spot in an otherwise uninspiring week finishing with 27.26 overall points by way of completing 21 of 34 passes for 259 yards and three touchdowns. He also threw one interception.

Running back Melvin Gordon has had an up-and-down season thus far with his highest mark of 24.80 points coming in week one. Between weeks two and seven, Gordon had only scored more than 12 total points one time, being week 3 in which he recorded 15.10 total points. Gordon bounced back nicely this week with an 18.20 point performance. He tallied 47 rushing yards, and 15 receiving yards, as well as both a rushing and receiving touchdown. Coach Mike Damico was thrilled with Gordon’s production.

“Melvin was huge for us this week”, said coach Damico. “We knew we had to get him the ball and let him work himself out of his struggles and that’s exactly what he did. Ultimately the caliber of player he is makes him a huge part of our offense whether we’re running the ball or throwing it. It was great to see.

Other top scorers for the Sealions this week included running back Aaron Jones who put up an impressive 24 points, as well as wide receiver Keenan Allen who contributed 19.70 points. The Sealions head to Harrisonburg to take on the Blue Streak for their week nine tilt.
