SALT LAKE CITY, Ut. – The Knighthawks extend their winning streak to three games after a resounding 102.46-51.46 victory over the Salt Lake City Cougars.
The Knighthawks offense was spearheaded by quarterback Josh Allen who racked up 44.46 points with three total TDs and 304 total yards. Wide receiver Amari Cooper served as Allen’s right-hand man accumulating 26.20 points with eight receptions for 122 yards and a touchdown. Cooper was not the only Knighthawks receiver to help lead the team to victory, as fellow receiver Darnell Mooney contributed 12.40 points with six receptions for 64 yards. While the team as a whole did not perform exceptionally, the Knighthawks fought through adversity to secure the victory and extend their winning streak.
In comparison to Knoxville’s point production, the opposing Cougars managed to gather half that of the Knighthawks. The Salt Lake City Cougars were led by quarterback Kirk Cousins with 23.16 points with 184 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Stefon Diggs fought hard to keep the Cougars in the matchup and accumulated 15.00 points through five receptions for 40 yards and a touchdown.
In the post-game press conference, Knighthawks’ coordinator Alex Raphael praised the team’s performance over the weekend.
“Very proud of how all of our players performed throughout our matchup. Fortunate that the Cougars didn’t expose us for the mistakes that we made, but I’m glad we ended up on the winning side and continue on with our three-game win streak. Looking ahead to next week, we need to make sure our players stay healthy and prepare accordingly for our game against the Chameleons.”
The 5-3 Knighthawks will be at home next week against the 4-4 Honolulu Chameleons at Neyland Stadium.
