PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Charleston Cadets faced an excruciating loss against the Phoenix Flames in an explosive week 7 matchup at the Coca-Cola stadium, where the home team made their city proud with a colossal 171.46-104.98 victory over the Cadets.
Despite their loss, the Charleston Cadets put up a commendable effort. While quarterback Lamar Jackson had his second weakest game of the season, he still managed to rack up 22.08 points, having passed for 257 yards, rushed for 88 yards and passed for one TD. The Cadets’ second key player was running back Cordarrelle Patterson. Patterson rushed 14 times for 60 yards and a TD, brought in two of five targets for one yard and returned two kickoffs for 43 yards, accumulating 18.40 points.
By and large, it was the Flames’ exceptional offense that truly solidified their victory. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers proved to be formidable after completing 27 of 35 passes for 274 yards and three TDs, compiling 43.66 points. Wide receiver Terry McLaurin also had a good night, notching seven receptions on 12 targets for 122 yards and one TD, scoring 27.20 points.
In the post-game conference, Charleston head coach John Harbaugh expressed his disappointment over the sizable loss.
“It’s certainly been another tough week. While there was great effort on our part, the Flames brought their A game and we didn’t put up the fight needed to turn the tide. The skill was undoubtedly there, but the boys need to learn how to be a bit more versatile in the face of adversity. It’s definitely something to be worked on in time for our big week 8 matchup against Sealions.”
The loss drops the Cadets’ record to 2-4, while the Flames rise to a record of 3-3.
The Cadets will be on the road again next weekend to face the San Diego Sealions at Sony Stadium.
