SACRAMENTO — The Salt Lake City Cougars fell short to the Sacramento Salamanders this past Saturday, the final score being 81.54 to 139.86. While beginning week 7 with a hopeful outlook, the team ended the weekend with yet another loss.
The Cougars were held back due to an injury reserve from wide receiver Deonte Harris. While WR Harris was out on injury, WR Calvin Ridley had a total of 26 receiving yards and one touchdown, and in turn gave the team 12.60 points. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo had a total of 181 passing yards, of which he had 16 complete passes out of 27. Overall, QB Garoppolo had one touchdown.
The Sacramento Salamanders established high dominance against the Salt Lake City Cougars this past week. QB Matthew Stafford and RB Myles Gaskin had a combined total of 63.76 points, with a strong performance by all of the starting lineup.
During the postgame news conference, QB Garoppolo acknowledged his shortcomings this weekend that effected the overall performance of the team.
“It’s tough, the team was pumped for this weeks’ game after our win last weekend. I know our record doesn’t reflect it, but we are a good team. Every team has had a building season, and that’s where we are right now,” said Garoppolo. “We have the motivation to become the team we are striving to be, but we recognize that a new team doesn’t come out of their first season with a golden record. We’ll get there, just give us time.”
The loss leaves the Salt Lake City Cougars with an 1-6 record heading into Week 8.
The Salt Lake City Cougars will be traveling to take on the Knoxville (4-3) next week.
