SACRAMENTO, CAL. — The Salt Lake City Cougars fell short to the Salamanders in their seventh game this weekend, the final score being 81.54 to 139.86.

With wide receiver Calvin Ridley just coming off of the bench, it heavily affected the team’s overall points. Quarterback Kirk Cousins was on the bench this week because of a bye, however, Jimmy Garoppolo was a good backup, racking up 8.24 points. During game six, Cousins had a total of 373 passing yards, of which he had a total of three touchdown passes and 16 rushing yards. His performance would have helped the Cougars this week, but Garoppolo held his own.

The Sacramento Salamanders established high superiority against the Salt Lake City Cougars this past weekend. QB Mattew Stafford and RB Myles Gaskin had a combined total of 63.76 points, with a strong performance by the entire startling lineup (135.86 points).

During the postgame news conference, QB Jimmy Garoppolo talked about the positives regarding the team’s performance.

“Our team showed last week that we have the potential to perform this season. Facing some adversity this week, with many of our players on bye weeks, we performed with great drive and determination. We are approaching teams in the league that will continue to fight but we must work harder to move up in the division,” said Garoppolo, “given the fact that Ridley and others just came off the bench this week, we look forward to them perform and what they’ll do in the next coming weeks. We must take each week at a time and treat each opponent as a new opportunity to prove ourselves.”

This loss has now left the Salt Lake City Cougars with a (1-6) record heading into their eighth week of the season.

Next week, the Salt Lake City Cougars will be at home and take on the Knoxville Knighthawks (4-3).
