LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach Sharks winning streak was cut short by the Harrisonburg Blue Streaks and have gone back to being under 0.500 with a new record of 3-4-0. The Harrisonburg Blue Streaks are now starting a new winning streak, winning two games in a row and raising their record to 4-3-0. Both teams came in with identical records and the Blue Streaks left the encounter with a positive result. The Sharks lost the encounter 46.70 – 130.34.

The main reason for the Shark’s defeat was the amount of players that were unable to play against the Blue Streaks. Dak Prescott, Najee Harris, and Mike Williams were all unavailable for the matchup and they were also the most important players on the team, putting up big results and averaging the most points for the Sharks. Those three players put up 0 points and Jack Doyle did play but also put up 0 points. Doyle’s participation has been dwindling and was only the target once and was not able to complete it.

Joe Mixon had 59 rushing yards including 1 rushing touchdown as he tried to cover up for the rest of the players who were not able to participate. The wide receiver, Robert Woods, had 70 receiving yards and completed a two point pass. Josh Jacobs had 39 receiving yards and 29 rushing yards including one rushing touchdown. Both Woods and Jacobs put up 15 points but it was enough for the strength of the Blue Streaks full team. The Sharks were only able to collect 46.70 points with the three eligible players.

Credit should still be given to the Harrisonburg Blue Streaks who got 130. 34 points with Kyler Murray (QB) being their top performer throwing 261 passing yards, 3 passing touchdowns, only 1 interception, and 10 rushing yards. Murray put up 34.44 points but he also had some help from his teammates, Damien Harris and Kyle Pitts. Harris had 106 rushing yards, 2 rushing touchdowns, and 7 receiving yards for a total of 26.30 points. Pitts was very active and had 163 receiving yards which gave the Blue Streaks an additional 24.30 points.

The Blue Streaks have put up a great performance but the question is, could the Sharks have won the game if they had a full team eligible to play? We had a moment to speak with the Shark’s head coach, Robert Barret, who was not happy with the result, “This game is probably the most disappointing loss in the season because we weren’t able to compete from the very beginning and it brings a lot of “what if” questions to not only the fans, but the players and staff also”. Kyler Murray also spoke about the game, “We understand that our opponents didn’t have a full team ready to play but that shouldn’t take away the hard work and credit from our team who still put up solid numbers to win any game”.

The Sharks may have an excuse for the loss this week, but it could have been prevented and therefore the Sharks could use this week’s result as a learning moment to improve in the future. The Blue Streaks are still a convincing team this season and are ready to continue their winning streak for the remaining season.

Do not count out the Sharks just yet. Many games lie ahead and one hiccup does not ruin their whole season. The Sharks are 3-4-0 and have put up many great performances the last 6 games, and they are ready to collect more wins to be considered a contender for the championship.
