CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Salt Lake City Cougars got shut down in the week 5 match up against the Charleston Cadets losing by 110.78 points, making it their biggest loss yet.
The Cougars major loss of points came from two starting players, wide receiver Calvin Ridley and tight end Logan Thomas. Ridley was out due to undisclosed personal reasons and Thomas was out with a hamstring injury.
Quarterback Kirk Cousins’ performance was mediocre at best scoring 29.4 points, incomparable to Cadets quarterback, Lamar Jackson who racked up a grand total of 78.44.
Ultimately, the Cougars offense could not compete at the same caliber as the Cadets. Cadets’ Antonio Gibson ran for 60 yards totaling two TDs on 20 carries. Cordarrelle Patterson recorded 14 rushes for a total of 54 yards.
In the post-game press conference, quarterback Kirk Cousins acknowledges the five-game losing streak.
“It’s tough, it’s really tough. We haven’t won a game yet. We know it, our fans know it, but I don’t want people to give up hope. We’re a good team and while our record doesn’t show for it, we have the drive and the capability but we must execute going forward. We are going into practice tomorrow only thinking about and preparing for Phoenix, not our record.”
The loss leaves the Salt Lake City Cougars with a 0-5 record heading into week 6.
Salt Lake City will be back home next week to face the Phoenix Flames at their home stadium, Twin Peaks.
