KNOXVILLE, Ky. – Following a mediocre start to the season the Knighthawks took a turn for the worse in week 5, falling to the Long Beach Sharks 126.80-163.98.
The Knighthawks offensive charge was led by quarterback Josh Allen who racked up 44.50 points on four total TDs and 374 total yards. To compound Allen’s efforts, running back Kareem Hunt and wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins were both effective. Hunt hit pay-dirt twice and tallied 89 total yards for 25.90 points, while Hopkins had 20.70 points on six catches for 87 yards and a TD.
Despite Knoxville’s strong point production, they were outdueled by Long Beach. There were multiple standout players for the Sharks, but Mike Williams rose above the rest with 41.50 points on 165 receiving yards and two end-zone visits. Quarterback Dak Prescott diced the defense for 302 passing yards and three TDs, to boot. Robert Woods was a key component as well, reeling in 12 balls for 150 yards.
In the post-game press conference, the Knoxville Knighthawks head coach Micah Scott noted there was just too much ground to make up.
“We fought hard, but there were a couple important possessions which didn’t go our way and that ended up being the difference. Losing Saquon Barkley early was a definite blow, but the Sharks were the better team. Going forward we’ll look to get healthy and game-plan for Salt Lake City.”
The 2-3 Knighthawks will be on the road next week against the 1-4 Salt Lake City Otters at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
