The Salt Lake City River Otters Fall Short in Week 1

SALT LAKE CITY – Coming into the week as a 5-point favorite, the Salt Lake City River Otters suffered their first loss of the year to the Long Beach Sharks, 121-140, on Sunday.

Despite excellent performances from the running backs Nick Chubb, who rushed for 83 yards on 15 attempts with 2 touchdowns (21.1 pts.), and Jonathan Taylor who rushed for 56 yards on 17 attempts and 6 receptions for 60 yards (17.6), the River Otters lost by 19 points. 

After a loss to begin the season, the River Otters quarterback Ryan Tannehill states during the post-game conference, “We gotta come back and get ready to go to work by playing with all we got in order for us to execute.”

Although the Sharks tight end, Eric Ebron, failed to score any points, QB Dak Prescott had 23 completions with 25 points, leading all offensive players. 

The Salt Lake City Otters are set to play the Orlando Hurricanes next Sunday at 7 p.m. . 

“Expect we will make some changes to the starting lineup against the Hurricanes,” said Nick Saban, River Otters’ head coach.
