HONOLULU — The Honolulu Volcanoes could not get back in the win column this week, losing to Salt Lake City 89.94 to 82.54. The Volcanos held a 12.24-point lead headed into Monday night, but Salt Lake City was not to be denied, rallying, and scoring 25.24 on Monday night to claim the lead and victory.

Despite only scoring 71.7% of their projected points, Salt Lake City squeaked by, due to performances by quarterback Daniel Jones and wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk who combined for 48.34 points.

For Honolulu, they were missing their star wide receivers production this week. Julian Edelman missed Sunday’s game because of injury and DeAndre Hopkins was on a bye. However, they kept things competitive courtesy of quarterback Phillip Rivers 35.28 points and 3 touchdown passes.

With two-star receivers out, the wide receiver scoring up was up to Chase Claypool, who finished with 12.20 points, and tight end Hayden Hurst who finished with 10.40. The Volcanoes also saw little production on the ground and air from running backs D’Andre Swift and Ronald Jones who combined for 10.90.

During the post-game conference, Volcanoes’ head coach Eric Picucci expressed his thoughts on the team moving forward.

“It does not feel good being on the receiving end of two losses in back-to-back weeks, but we can’t dwell on the past. Moving forward, there’s room for improvement and the players have to step up and essentially play better if this team wants to see results they desire.”

Despite injuries to Dak Prescott, Zach Ertz, Julian Edelman, and Jimmy Garoppolo the Volcanoes continue battling each week and will look forward, hoping to snap their losing streak as they travel to Austin, TX for a contest with the Vipers this Sunday at 1 P.M.
