The game was neck and neck through the third quarter until the Soul made their way on top following Monday night’s game. Buffalo Quarterback Gardner Minshew kept the dream alive for a while with a staggering 32.84 points awarded for his 31-of-49 pass completion rate, 301 yards, and 2 touchdowns. However, QB Kyler Murray of the Memphis Soul outplayed Minshew, earning 44.3 points with his career-high 380 yards. Murray’s dominance made it difficult for the Buffalo to make a comeback.
Both teams were counting on their offenses this week, with Buffalo’s defense scoring 0 points off of a bye, and the Soul’s defense losing 4 points after allowing 383 total yards. The lack of defensive play made this a low-scoring game with high stakes for the offenses. Oklahoma City had an impressive performance, but the talent of the Memphis Soul was simply too much for the Buffalo to handle without their strong defense to rely on.
Following the disappointing loss, Buffalo Head Coach Bailey Butler has her eyes set on a win next week to put the Buffalo back at .500 for the season.
“Am I disappointed? Yeah, of course I am. Our guys played well and we thought that we had the game, but Memphis proved tonight that it’s not over until it’s over. We’re just all going to get some rest tonight because practice tomorrow is not going to be a light one.”
The loss brought the Buffalo’s record to 2-3, dropping them to ninth place in the SCOM Fantasy Classic League.
The Buffalo will be in Harrisonburg, Virginia next week to play the tenth place Harrisonburg Valley Bees, who also hold a 2-3 record. This game will be a deciding factor in which team has a chance to rank highly this season, and which team will fall short.
