LOUISVILLE, Ken. – The Louisville Mustangs pulled off their first win of the season in an upset victory against the previously undefeated San Jose Bandits, scoring 172.76 points to San Jose’s 126.00.
Despite dealing with a minor back injury, WR Odell Beckham Jr.’s spectacular game was one of the biggest keys to victory for the Mustangs, as he scored three touchdowns and put a team-leading total of 41.40 points. Both of Louisville’s quarterbacks were also crucial to the win, with Lamar Jackson and Patrick Mahomes putting up a combined 64.26 points, over a third of the Mustangs’ total scoring.
San Jose QB Russell Wilson also had a great game, adding 35.90 points to their total. But the rest of their offense was lackluster, with four of their starters scoring less than ten points. Their defense also struggled this week, scoring only five points to Louisville’s eleven.
When asked about the team’s first win, Beckham Jr. had the following to say.
“It feels great. I think we really managed to come together as a team. Hopefully we can carry this into next week, and the week after that, and just keep the wins up.
Louisville is now 1-3 on the year. They will face the 2-2 San Antonio Chaps next weekend.
