Austin, TX. – The Austin Vipers lost their second game of the year this week to  the Albuquerque Fighting Turkeys in Austin this week. The Vipers lost by 10.8 points with the final score being 177.68 to 166.68.

For the Vipers, Tyler Lockett was the star of the show putting up an impressive 39.00 points with 100 rec yards and 3 touchdowns. This was for sure one of his best performances of the year. Carson Wentz had a bounce back game from his two weak performances earlier in the season finishing with 31.50 points. Wentz put up 225 passing yards with a touchdown and 2 Interceptions, while also rushing for 65 yards and another touchdown.

Despite this strong effort from the two, they were no match for the Flying Turkey’s QB duo. Ryan Fitzpatrick and Joe Burrow combined for 80.58 points and were both top 10  overall QB’s in the league. The Turkey’s also had a strong performance from James Conner raking up over 149 scrimmage yards. His 25.90 points were the highest running back point total in the game.

It was a disappointing performance from the offense of the Vipers, who had over 200 points last week. Stars Cam Newton and Aaron Jones were well below their season averages for the game. Newton actually got his point total of 17.18 points practically doubled by bench QB Justin Herbert who scored 34.70 points.

The offense’s stars and their consistency will be vital if the Vipers want to win more games. Coach Ryan Pelletier repeated this in his Press conference after the game.

” We played well enough to win most weeks, but we just didn’t get enough from our main performers this week. As a team, we will have to be much more consistent to beat teams as good the Flying turkeys every week. I’m expecting are guys to be motivated and come back much stronger next week.”

The loss puts the Vipers at 1-2 and moves them into 7th place in the league.

Austin will be heading to Salt Lake this week to take on the 1-2 Otters on the road. This will be a good test to get back to .500 for the Vipers.
