SAN ANTONIO, TX – The Defenders lost a hard fought battle this weekend against the Harrisonburg Valley Bees, 151.52-144.56. Harrisonburg improves to 2-3 as San Antonio falls to 3-2 on the season and are now tied for 3rdplace in the league standings
Quarterback Deshaun Watson put on an offensive spectacle on Sunday, completing 28 of 33 pass attempts for 426 yards and five touchdowns (65.74 points). Watson has surpassed 40 points on three separate occasions this season. Running back Austin Ekeler and quarterback Kyler Murray (flex) both provided key contributions this week, accounting for 21.3 and 33.42 points, respectively.
Running back Wayne Gallman, filling in this week for injured star running back Saquon Barkley, suffered a concussion during Sunday’s contest and will be out indefinitely. With Barkley nursing an ankle injury and Gallman’s early exit this week, San Antonio will turn to Damien Williams to handle backfield duties alongside Ekeler
Assistant General Manager Michael Stearman offered words of encouragement towards Williams during the postgame press conference following Sunday’s defeat. “He’s on this team for a reason. We as an organization set an expectation that when any of our players are on the field on Sunday’s, we believe in all them.”
The Defenders are starting to hit their stride as they await key players returning from injury. San Antonio prepares for battle as they take on the Las Vegas Jokers next week at the AlamoDome at 1 p.m.
