Carson and Ryan’s Impressive First Game Leaves Cobras With Hope

PORTLAND, Ore. – In the opening game of the season, the Portland Purple Cobras fell to the Long Beach Ligers 167.20 to 218.92 on Sunday afternoon in Long Beach, CA. Despite a tough start for quarterback Jameis Winston, running back Chris Carson and quarterback Matt Ryan gave strong efforts to start their season.

Both Carson and Ryan’s individual efforts were nothing to be ashamed of this weekend. Chris Carson’s dominant 23.10 point performance put him among the top ten running backs in the country for week one. Carson rushed for 46 yards and had two touchdowns for the Cobras. Matt Ryan beat his original projection of 18.33 points by 115% by scoring 39.56 points.

The Cobra’s offensive coordinator Maddie McDaniel said, “This was a tough final score, but the individual efforts by some of our players has us very excited for the rest of the season”.

The Portland Purple Cobras will be back in action Sunday at 1 p.m. as they take on the Harrisonburg Valley Bees in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
