San Antonio Defenders With Early-Season Dominance

SAN ANTONIO – Defenders win their first game of the season against the Salt Lake City Serpents at Amazon Field with a final score of 179.72-118.22. The team was led by running back Austin Ekeler with 42.40 points, to rank second among the running backs in the league. 

Deshaun Watson led the offense with 268 passing yards and 40 rushing yards. Watson rushed for one touchdown to gain a total of 40.72 points for the team. 

Juju Smith-Schuster was not as active in putting points on the scoreboard. With 13.80 points, Smith-Schuster is keeping his head up in hopes for a successful season. 

“I may fail, but I will never fold,” Juju Smith-Schuster tweeted.

With a strong victory on the road the Defenders start the season off successful and place dominance in the league. Kendall Trautz, the Defenders’ General Manager, was very pleased with the performance of the team. 

“We are very excited to start the season off with a win and hope to keep this momentum for upcoming games,” said Trautz.
