AUSTIN (Dec. 4, 2018) – Beginning in January of 2019 the Austin Rockets will be launching a new campaign to spread awareness in hopes to alleviate the dreadful city traffic people spend hours in each day.
According to Head Coach, Alex Katz, the team is generating a petition to, encouraging young city residents, suburban families, and Rocket fans, to support the infrastructure expansion. Local officers announced they will be speaking at an event held by the team to discuss the dangers of traffic and the accident rates that follow.
“Austin has become one of the largest cities in the U.S and our current infrastructure simply will not support this population as it continues to grow, says Brian Manley, Chief of the Austin, Texas, Police Department, “New transportation options need to be implemented and the Austin Rockets are starting to put this plan into action.”
According to the 2018 U.S census, Austin is home to 931,830 people. The Texas Department of Transportation stated that Austin has “the worst traffic in Texas” and 83% of residents have claimed traffic as their biggest concern. Austin has been reported as one of the largest and fastest growing cities in the U.S, and its infrastructure cannot keep up with the rate of growth.
By the start of the next football season, signatures from millennials, fans, and suburban families will be collected.
“The team is excited to meet our fans and discuss their views on Austin’s infrastructure”, says Matt Ryan, Quarterback for the Austin Rockets, “We want to show them how expanding our infrastructure is not only beneficial to the whole city, but it is also necessary for our city to prosper.”
The Rockets have stated they will be at every petition signing event and will be doing everything they can to turn this plan into reality.
