HUMAHUMANUKANUKAAPUAA’S CAMPBELL PARTNERS WITH NONPROFIT

HONOLULU, HI – Honolulu Humahumanukanukaapuaa defensive end Calais Campbell is teaming up with Honolulu Habitat for Humanity in an effort to eliminate poverty and homelessness in the city. Campbell and Honolulu Habitat for Humanity (HHH), a nonprofit dedicated to building low-income families affordable places to live, will begin working together immediately, and will target social media donations to help the cause.

“Calais came to us and wanted to help and we think his fame in the city can really have an impact,” Mary Vandeveld, program manager of HHH, said. “He is just the athlete we needed to help us expand to reach as many people in need as we can and we’re excited to get him started.”

Included in Campbell’s deal with HHH is a monthly digital storytelling video of him volunteering being tweeted on the Humahumanukanukaapuaa’s official account. For every retweet each post earns, HHH and Campbell will donate $1 to the up-and-coming Humahumahumanitarians Soup Kitchen.

“The donations from Campbell and Honolulu Habitat for Humanity and Campbell will help us get our soup kitchen rolling and we can’t thank them enough,” Kim Zchonivic, owner of the Humahuma soup kitchen, said. “We’re hoping for lots of retweets and are ready to go full speed ahead with helping others.”

This joint effort by Campbell and HHH will be highlighted in Aloha Stadium on the Daktronics video board during home games.

Campbell has been named to three Pro-Bowl’s (2014, 2015, 2017)  and finished the 2017 season with a career-high 14.5 sacks and three forced fumbles.

“I love that I have the ability to give back to the people of the town that I adore so much,” Campbell said. “This is only the beginning of a campaign that I think will change the way team’s use their resources and it should be a beautiful thing.”
