Honolulu Hammerheads Hammer Out Crime in Schools
HONOLULU, HI. Dec. 10,2018 — The Honolulu Hammerheads have decided to launch violent crime prevention programs that will be implemented in the local high schools of Honolulu alongside The Lionheart Foundation. Through this program, the youth of Honolulu will be given the opportunity to attend violent crime prevention meetings hosted by the Hammerheads team players such as Jared Goff, Sony Michel, and Travis Kelce. By doing so the Honolulu Hammerheads hope to spread awareness throughout Honolulu concerning violent crime and how to prevent it by reaching out to at-risk youth in schools along with their parents.
According to areavibes.com, the overall crime rate in Honolulu is 20% higher than the national average. For every 100,000 people, there were 251 daily crimes that happen in Honolulu. In Honolulu, you have a 1 in 30 chance of becoming a victim of any crime. Honolulu shows a crime rate that is 8% higher than the Hawaii average.
“Crime is a big issue in Honolulu and has affected many of us in the Hammerhead family in horrific ways”, stated head coach of the Honolulu Hammerheads, John Levitt. “In the 30 years that I have lived in Honolulu, I have met many people in eh community who have been affected by violent crimes and due to this I am very excited along with the team to work on this campaign and hammer out violent crime.”
“I am beyond excited to start taking part in this amazing program that my team along with the Lionheart organization has started. I along with my teammates believe that by getting the word around about preventing violent crime through the youth will change Honolulu for the better”, stated Honolulu Hammerheads quarterback Jared Goff when asked about the program.
