MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Suns announced a brand new campaign to raise awareness of the extremely high poverty rate in the city of Memphis. In fact, Memphis is one of the most impoverished large metro cities in the country with an average poverty rate of 26.9% and a child poverty rate of 44.7%.

“Together, we have a problem, and together, we can be part of the solution,” Sun’s GM, Jordan Richardson, preaches is the main message to the citizens of Memphis. He continues, “This is our city, and we must work to make it a better place for all.”

By the 2020 season, the Suns organization is committed to reducing the poverty rate among all races and ages in the city of Memphis.

In our partnership with Memphis Public Transportation, we will be increasing and adding bus routes. The citizens of Memphis will have the opportunity to travel further from the city and will allow people who are further to travel into the city. This goal will be enacted to increase the opportunity of Memphis’ residents and surrounding city’s residents.

John Gotti, Director of Public Transportation for the City of Memphis says, “Our partnership with the Memphis Suns will be an increasingly important relationship in an effort to reduce poverty in our city.”

The Memphis Suns are a brand new organization in the SCOM Fantasy Classic. Our initiative #RiseAndShineMemphis aims to raise awareness of the poverty issue in the city. With your help, we can greatly reduce the overall poverty rate by 2020.
