LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Louisville Lions are joining forces with the Louisville Police Department to get illegal handguns off the street by allowing citizens to turn in firearms without repercussions April 15, 2019 only.
The L.P.D. will have officers at the Louisville Lions facility from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. to safely collect any unregistered or unwanted firearms. Citizens of Louisville can bring unloaded weapons to hand in with no fear of penalty. Ammunition will also be accepted but may not be brought in with a firearm.
“We have found one of the most effective ways to reduce the number of illegal firearms on the streets of Louisville is to simply provide a safe opportunity for the guns to be turned in,” said Louisville Police Chief Steve Conrad. “The Lions are committed to improving the safety of the city for all citizens, not just around AT&T Stadium, and the organization strives to find innovative ways such as this to continue making a positive impact in Louisville,” said a Louisville Lions representative. This all coming since Louisville has experienced around 1,000 shooting deaths since 2003.
