AUSTIN, Texas – The Austin Atmosphere will hold a special event with nonprofit organizations I Live Here I Give Here and Austin Disaster Relief Network during half time of their final regular season game, Monday, Dec. 10.
“We want to inform the public on the danger of floods in our area and encourage proper safety procedures during the intense flooding season,” says Christian Heist, Director of Public Relations for the Austin Atmosphere. “We also want to encourage our fans and residents of Austin to go out in the community and help those in need, whether it be donating food, non-perishables or even just lending a working hand during the post-flood reconstruction period.”
September of 2018 was the wettest the state of Texas had been since 1895. On several occasions, Austin experienced severe flooding, with upwards of 14 inches of rainfall in less than 48 hours. Flooding is the number one risk and hazard to the city of Austin and it is a threat across the city year-round.
“We are very happy to work with the Atmosphere, because flooding is a severe issue in our city and many people suffer from it every year. We just want to help educate the public as best as we can to prevent any unnecessary casualties. Flooding in Austin is serious and it is important to shed light on the issue,” says Barbara Bucklin, Executive Director of ADRN.
According to Heist, the Atmosphere will donate 50 percent of all ticket sales to I Live Here I Give Here and ADRN equally. During each quarter of the game, there will be gift card raffles and t-shirt and autographed memorabilia giveaways to fans that sign up to join the Atmosphere relief effort team. Spokespeople from each organization will address the importance of proper safety procedures during flood crises. There will also be an informational video for those in attendance.
