WEEK 7 RECAP

Honolulu Humahumanukanukaapuaa (2-5) was leading the San Diego Jack Rabbits going into the Monday Night Football matchup in Week 7, but fell due to wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.’s season-best performance. The 130.78 – 110.36 loss pushed the Humahumanukanukaapuaa losing streak to three and has them on the brink of having any playoff hopes. Quarterback Jameis Winston and running back Todd Gurley did they heavy lifting for Honolulu, as the two combined for 61.70 points in the loss. Gurley’s performance kept him atop the league standings in total points for a running back, as the Rams standout hasn’t had a week below 24 points this season.

The Jack Rabbits (4-3) used a 31.28-point game from quarterback Marcus Mariota, along with Beckham Jr.’s 29.20 points to outlast Honolulu. San Diego left points on the bench and could’ve made it easier on itself if it had played wide receivers Danny Amendola (20.40 points) and Josh Gordon (15.00 points). The x-factor for the Jack Rabbits was the Patriots defense/special teams, which surprisingly came up with 17 points after two special teams touchdowns.

Honolulu’s 110.36 points would’ve beaten six teams, but not San Diego. Although the Humahumanukanukaapuaa have had rough luck with scoring high in losses, the team is searching for an answer at its FLEX position, which hasn’t produced well enough all season.

WEEK 8 MATCHUP PREVIEW

Honolulu vs. Omaha

The Humahumanukanukaapuaa (2-5) take on the undefeated Omaha Goldenrods (7-0) in a Week 8 matchup as Honolulu looks to turn their season around.

Will Winston Prevail, or Will His Luck Run Out

Quarterback Jameis Winston squares off against Andrew Luck. Winston has been on an absolute tear the past two weeks scoring 30+ points. Both Quarterbacks look to continue their great run of form in Week 8.

Stable of “Backs”

Running back Todd Gurley will look to stay on his incredible pace, as he takes on fellow running back Kareem Hunt. Both running backs have posted incredible numbers: Gurley has score 30+ fantasy points in three consecutive games, while Hunt has scored 30+ fantasy points in two consecutive games.

Howard’s Woes

Running back Jordan Howard has had his struggles this season. Howard has failed to score more then fifteen points in four of the Bear’s six games this season. Can he turn it around against the New York Jets in Week 8?

Projections Predict Nail-Biter

Projections tell a close week is on the horizon. According to NFL.com, the Goldrenrods’ projected score will be 115.95, while the Humahumanukanukaapuaa are predicted to score 111.44.

Favorable Matchup

The Humahumanukanukaapuaa have a very favorable tight end matchup this week, as Evan Engram squares off against Nick Vannet. Engram is projected to outscore Vannet by nearly double (8.63-4.39).

Wide Receiver Struggles

The Humahumanukanukaapuaa receivers have been nothing if not inconsistent this year. Wide receivers T.J. Gabriel, Dede Westbrook, and T.Y. Hilton will play this week, while Pierre Garcon and Mike Williams will sit out due to injury and a bye week, respectively.  We will see what kind of production Honolulu gets out of each this week.

Dangerous Duo

Omaha will start Devontae Adams and JuJu Smith-Schuster this week at wide receiver. They are projected to outscore Honolulu’s starting wide receivers by 11.06 points.

WHAT “THEY’RE” SAYING

Honolulu Star-Advertiser – “Omaha is looking strong against Honolulu. It seems the Humahumanukanukaapuaa will fall for the third week in a row.”

Stephen A. Smith – “Omaha might be projected to win overall, but Honolulu’s quarterback might come out on top!”

ESPN – “The Goldenrod defense looks like it’s going to stack up better than Honolulu’s.”

Los Angeles Times – “I see this game being close until the end, but I still think Omaha will be victorious.”

Hawaii Tribune-Herald – “I’m looking for an upset here, Honolulu really needs some momentum to turn their season around.”

HOOPLA IN HONOLULU

  • Impactful: Childhood obesity in Hawaii is on the rise. The obesity rate now ranks 33rd in the nation. The obesity rates in Hawaiian high schools is 14.2%, which is the highest in the nation. Nationally, 16% of youth are considered obese. The rates are highest among boys and minorities. Mississippi ranks number one.
  • Conflict: Hawaii’s Kilauea might be quiet right now, but it’s certainly not dormant. A new USGC report sets Kilauea on top of Mount St. Helens, which used to be ranked No. 1. Kilauea was given a score of 263, while Mount St. Helens got 235, and Mount Rainer scored 203. The scores are calculated by looking at likelihood of eruption, and risk to nearby populations. Eruptions started in May in lower Puna, and have since stopped, but geologist warn that they could start again at any time.
  • Proximity: Honolulu City Council members are fighting to move from Honolulu Hale to a nicer, high-end downtown office building. According to Council Chairman, Ernie Martin, “… numerous employees have reported illnesses.” Other council members back Martin by indicating that the move is necessary to avoid health risks from lead, mold, and asbestos. There have been discussions of turning Honolulu Hale into a museum.
