Late magic pushes Rods to win in St. Louis

OMAHA— A Monday-night miracle helped the Goldenrods overcome the Archers from St. Louis for their third straight win.

Going into Monday night the Rods had a slim lead on the Archers and needed a big-time game out of Wide Receiver Juju Smith-Schuster, and that is exactly what they got. He dropped 21.60 points, his third week dropping 20+ points, and the Rods rode that wave to a 136.20-119.60 win.

QUICK HITS

Kareem Hunt produced 16.40 points, his best mark so far this season.

Andrew Luck and Philip Rivers had their lowest scoring output of the season recording just below 25.

The Archers outscored the Rods in five of the nine position columns, yet came out on the losing end of things.

JUJU ON THAT  BEAT…  PT II

Smith-Schuster had himself another great performance, this one coming under the bright Monday night lights. He put up 21.60 points his second highest point

total this year, behind his 32.10 tally just last week. Smith-Schuster had nine catches for 116 yards and helped the Steelers beat the Bucs, 30-27.

QUOTING HEAD COACH JACK FITZPATRICK

“The guys came out and played hard. It was a little close coming down to the wire but you know, they all put their heads down and got to work. Being 3-0 and playing this well so early on is great but we need to focus on next week and the Black Bears and beating them. Each week is a championship week.”

UP NEXT

Next week, the Goldenrods will be playing host to the Boulder Black Bears who come in without a win. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. from the Warren Buffet Dome.

Matchup Preview:

This week the Goldenrods return back to the Warren Buffet dome. They are playing host to the Boulder Black Bears who come in losing their last three games. It’s a matchup between worst and first in the section 1 division of SCOM Fantasy football.

The  Goldenrods  are   coming off their closest game yet of the season, beating the Archers 136.20 to 119.60. It was the most points put up by the Archers all season, but thanks to the big-time 21.60 Monday night outing by Juju Smith-Schuster, the Goldenrods were able to take home the W.

Last week for the Black  Bears fell to the San Diego Jack Rabbits, 135.14-116.40. The Black Bears thought they had the answers to the question marks around the Jack Rabbits, however Josh Allen had his coming-out party and dropped 32.74 points, while Derek Carr pitched in another 29.60. The Black Bears had solid numbers across the board but only one guy score more than 20 points. Robert Woods dropped 34.70 points last week and will be a key guy for the Rods to stop this week when they matchup.

The Rods come into this game averaging 166.07 points per game and have scored 498.22 points this season, the second best clip in the league. The Black Bears on the other hand have scored 390.28 points this season and at times struggle to put up points.

It will be the first place team taking on the 7th place team this Sunday with kickoff slated for 1 p.m. If you can’t make it to the Warren Buffet Dome you can watch all the action on WOWT-TV, or follow@OmahaGoldenrods on twitter for in-game updates.

Team News:

Will Dissly Claimed off waivers:

The GoldenRods scooped up Will Dissly (TE) off of the waiver wire in time for him to start for the Rods in week 2.

The Rods dropped Cameron Meredith (WR) to have room on the roster to claim Dissly.

Jermaine Gresham dropped:
