Notorious for their nail-biting finishes, the Virginia Beach Neptunes escaped week 3 with a win over the Honolulu Rocks. The win follows a tough loss to the defending champions, Harrisonburg Valley Bees, in Poseidon Park last week. On the road in Honolulu, Quarterback Kirk Cousins led the ‘Tunes with an impressive 365 pass yards, 3 pass touchdowns and 2 rush yards totaling 50.80 points. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers was right behind Cousins with 313 pass yards, 3 pass touchdowns, 23 rush yards and 1 interception totaling 39.82 points. Running backs LeSean McCoy and first-time starter, Ty Montgomery, rushed 56 yards and received 63 yards combined, which was enough to get 26.90 points for the Neptunes. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill was able to received 77 yards and score 1 touchdown to pick up 21 points, while other wide receiver Amari Cooper was held to just 6 receiving yards by the Rocks. Cooper and Tight End Jack Doyle were the lowest scorers for the ‘Tunes this week, combining for a total 2.20 points.
Match up Preview
- Wide Receiver Stefon Diggs will get his first start off the bench for the first time this season against the Spades next week.
- Running back Ty Montgomery and Tight End Jack Doyle will both get a chance to redeem themselves against the Spades after poor performances by both athletes this week.
- The Las Vegas Spades are the number 1 ranked team in the league right now with an impressive 3-0 record.
- The Spades are led by two prominent quarterbacks, #4 ranked Drew Brees and #8 ranked Dak Prescott.
- The #2 ranked running back in the league, Todd Gurley, and #2 ranked wide receiver, Antonio Brown, will pose massive threats to the Neptunes going into Week 4 against the Spades.
- Notably, the Spades defense is ranked #4 in the league, compared to the ‘Tunes #22 ranked position, will prove to be a challenge for the ‘Tunes offense next week.
Virginia Beach Neptunes Season Notes
- Andrew Luck will not return this week as he continues to heal from a shoulder injury.
- Ty Montgomery was a full participant in Tuesday’s practice. His full involvement seems to imply that his wrist won’t stop him from playing in next week’s game.
- As Tropical Storm Maria passes through the area, the ocean conditions are incredibly dangerous and Virginia Beach officials suggest swimmers and surfers to stay out of the water in order to keep first-responders out of danger.
- Virginia Beach’s Neptune Festival is on for this weekend – even with strong winds and grey skies, setup has begun, including the sand sculpting competition.
- A North Carolina man faces life in prison after being found guilty of stabbing a Virginia Beach man during a road rage incident in April.
- Norfolk’s first Ikea was originally slated to arrive next summer, but now appears to be arriving later in 2019.
