Game Recap

The first game of the season seemed ‘in the bag’ early on Sunday with standout player Aaron Rodgers leading the team with 28 completions from 311 yards and LeSean McCoy adding 110 rushing yards and 49 receiving yards for a combined total of 53.44 points. After a slow first half from both players, the second half needed to see vast improvement from multiple players to secure the first win of the season. Letting the team down during Sunday’s matchup was the Neptune’s second round pick, Demarco Murray, who was held to only 44 rushing yards and eight points – a disappointment the ‘Tunes did not expect.

Moving to Monday with a 40-point lead, some key players now needed to step up and make a name for themselves early on in league play – and wide-receiver Amari Cooper did just that. Adding 16 points for the Neptunes proved to be crucial while trying to fight off the best defense in the league. On Monday night, things tensed up when the Chickadees quarterback Sam Bradford began his own comeback effort as the ‘Tunes very own Hunter Henry was held to 0 points against the Chickadees.

Winning by only .8 points, the Neptunes are lucky to have excelled but are excited to prove themselves during next week’s matchup against the defending champions, the Harrisonburg Valley Bees. The Neptunes also received the Week 1 Highest Scoring Bench Award in which they hope to continue as the season progresses.

Matchup Preview

  • The Neptunes move Tyreek Hill from the bench.
  • LeSean McCoy is the #2 rusher in the NFL – opening many opportunities for him against the Bee’s backfield.
  • Hunter Henry was released from the VA Beach Neptunes due to last week’s 0 point performance.
  • After a Week 1 disappointment for Kirk Cousins, the quarterback looks to use his favorite wide receiver, Terrelle Pryor, to make up for last week.
  • Aaron Rodgers is currently #2 in the NFL in total yards.
  • The Bees will not be changing their lineup for Week 2 seeing as Week 1 worked out so well for them with a 30 point win against the Madison Moose.
  • The Neptune’s defense needs to hold off the Bee’s quarterback Matt Ryan if they want to have a good chance of winning during their Week 2 matchup.

Virginia Beach Neptunes Season Notes
