Game Recap:

Despite a strong performance as a team, the Columbia Salamanders fell to the Sacramento Sasquatches in week 9 by a score of 144.10 to 167.68. The Salamanders started their week with a huge performance on Monday night from Jameis Winston, who dropped 29.84 points. However, the Sasquatches outmatched the Salamanders Monday night, with Mike Evans scoring 39.00 points in the same game. With the rest of both teams having played Sunday, the Salamanders had to close the 9.16 point gap by the end of the day. Unfortunately, they were not able to do so, with Sammie Coates and Coby Fleener putting up less than stellar numbers (11.20 total). The Columbia Salamanders are looking for a come back against the Honolulu Megalodons next week.

Matchup Preview:

– Given the current lineups set for next week, the Salamanders are projected to outscore the Honolulu Megalodons 113.40 to 69.74.

– The Megalodons have very few options to fill out their roster, as they have five players on bye, one on injured reserve, and one who is no longer playing football (Arian Foster).

– The player with the highest projection for next week is the Salamanders’ Jameis Winston at 18.20 points.

– Both teams enter week 10 following losses, with the Salamanders on a one week skid and the Megalodons on a four-game losing streak.

– If the Salamanders can shut down Dez Bryant, who has played both excellently and poorly since returning from injury, then they will be in good shape for a win next week.

Terrance West and Jay Ajayi, projected at 15.20 and 16.30 points respectively, will lead the Salamanders on the ground, with Devonta Freeman (13.10 projected) and T.J. Yeldon (11.60 projected) looking to get the start for the Megalodons.

Columbia Salamanders’ Season Notes:

-After starting the season off slowly, Jay Ajayi has scored 22.00, 30.60, and 38.70 points in his last three games.

Julian Edelman and John Brown had a limited practice on Wednesday night due to foot and hamstring injuries, though both players currently face no setbacks.

-Tonight at 7, the Homeless Helping Homeless will be putting on an event of music, spoken word, theater, dance, poetry and visual arts. This event will be held at the Tapp’s Art Center in Columbia.

-Despite mixed emotions regarding President elect Donald Trump, Columbia religious leaders speak of unity and love.
