Game Recap
The Richmond Renegades came back from a near 43-point deficit Monday night to triumph over the Sacramento Sasquatches 130.58 to 128.56 and rise to a 2-1 overall record. It was Renegades quarterback Drew Brees that clinched the win, remaining the highest-scoring player on the field for the second week in a row and nabbing 44.94 points on his way towards leading the team to their last-second victory.
Richmond took an early lead Sunday in part thanks to a strong performance from wide receiver Jordy Nelson, who scored two touchdowns. The Sasquatches would soon catch up though, eventually working up to a lead that they would hold for over 30 hours before Brees came through with his decisive game winning-performance. This was both the second overall and consecutive win for the Renegades, but despite it, they fell one spot to sixth place in the league standings. They’ll look to repeat victory in next week’s matchup against the fifth-ranked Honolulu Megalodons.
A Look at What’s to Come
• This will be the first meeting between the Renegades and the Megalodons, with both teams hoping to extend their current two-game win streaks.
• The teams are matched up very closely in terms of points scored, however the Megalodons lead the league in terms of fewest points let up while Renegades are closer to the league average.
• If numbers can be trusted then the Renegades are expected to take the game, with a projected score of 110.34 to the Megalodons’ 91.46.
• The Megalodons will be playing Orleans Darkwa as running back in place of Shane Vereen, while Renegades offensive threat Jordy Nelson will be sitting the game out due to a bye week.
• Richmond will however retain its other star players, with overall number one-ranked player Drew Brees and top ten-ranked Andrew Luck in particular looking good.
• Wide receiver Stefon Diggs is also looking to be on the upswing after scoring fewer points last week, a good sign in a week with no Nelson.
• Diggs and Megolodons WR Marvin Jones stand as the top two players in the league for receiving yards, so it could be a close one.
Renegades Season Notes
• Running backs Jonathan Stewart and Ameer Abdullah will continue to sit on reserve while recovering from injury. There have been no other shakeups to the Richmond roster since last game.
• Richmond should be enjoying pleasant weather for the first time in a few days to coincide with the Renegades’s weekend away game.
• There’s been a shakeup in Richmond’s mayoral race, with former city councilman Bruce Tyler dropping out while the remaining candidates debate issues like taxes, education and the James River on a public platform. The Renegades encourage our fans to be active in and aware of the local political process.
• The city’s attempt to secure a grant for reformation of the impoverished East End has been denied for now.
• Local unemployment raises to 4.2 percent.
• Authorities warn locals to be vigilant among a wave of sinister clowns seen popping up around the state of Virginia.
