Across the league, it is now clear that Virginia Beach Sharks Quarterback; Kirk Cousins is a force to be reckoned with. Cousins shined this past Sunday, completing plays leading to touchdown after touchdown and a huge win for the Virginia Beach Sharks.
It was not the touchdown passes, that meant the most to Cousins, and in fact what meant most to him was something that happened off the field after the game. After the game was over Cousins had an inspiring moment with his father, Don Cousins. Cousins walked over to the stands and handed to game ball to his beloved father.
Don Cousins, who is 58 years old shared with the Virginian Pilot sportswriter that this summer he was diagnosed with Metastatic Squamous Cell Carcinoma and started undergoing treatments around the time training camp started in late July.
Don Cousins who is 58 years old was attending his son’s first game of the 2015-2016 season. However, Cousin’s father underwent his last treatment recently and was healthy enough to attend the Sharks’ 47-14 victory Sunday over the Memphis Blues. Cousins completed 20 of 25 passes for 324 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions.
After the game, a Virginian-Pilot cameraman captured him on video handing the ball to his father as the two exchanged a long hug, melting the heart of any football fan.
“To have him back was exciting and to have a game like that was a lot of fun, I had to give him the game ball,” Cousins told the Virginian Pilot. “He just said: ‘Thank you. Thanks for a great day,’ put a smile on his face and it was special for our family and we’ll enjoy it tonight.”
What a game for Cousins’ father to see, it was his best game as a professional and meant more to him than any other game. Cousins and the rest of the Virginia Beach Sharks team look forward to continuing their successes next week. The entire organization is dedicated to finishing out the season strong and they know that focus and hard work at practice will lead to success.
